The Future is Equal

In April of 2024, a research report by the Boekman Foundation on behalf of the Niemeijer Fund concluded that female artists earn less than their male counterparts, are less visible and less frequently purchased by museums and collectors. Be part of the change and celebrate the art of four female artists: Ellen Yiu, Hedy Tjin, Sarah Mei Herman, and Shani Leseman.

You are most welcome to view the exhibition, which will be on show until 12 September 2024 at Capital C, Weesperplein 4B in Amsterdam. The exhibition can be viewed during the opening hours of Capital C (Monday - Friday from 9AM until 5PM).

Studio Visit & Museum Tour with Simon Verheylesonne

Sun 14:00 · Machelen · Studio & Museum ·

Late September, we invite you to a special combination visit in the area around Ghent, about a 40-minute journey from the city. We’ll start the afternoon with a visit to the studio of the emerging artist Simon Verheylesonne, located in the picturesque village of Machelen-aan-de-Leie: birthplace of Roger Raveel and the final resting place of Gerard Reve.

Verheylesonne will personally guide us through his studio, sharing insights into the world behind his work. After the studio visit, we’ll head to the Mudel museum, where the artist will lead us on a tour through the museum’s collection. He will also delve into the recent acquisition of his work by the museum and explain how the process unfolded.

Please note: the museum visit is included in our program. If you happen to have a Belgian museum pass, please bring it along so the museum can scan it.

Masterclass Modern Masterpieces: Queer Pioneers

Thu 19:00 · Online · Masterclass ·

11 October is International Coming Out Day, and we are kicking it off on 10 October at 7:00 PM with a special queer edition of our masterclass series: Modern Masterpieces. This event offers a unique opportunity to explore the influence and importance of queer artists in the art landscape.

Artists from LGBTQAI+ communities play a significant role in the art world through their unique perspectives and experiences. As they often challenge traditional norms — such as those regarding gender, sexuality, or heteronormative institutions like marriage — they are also more likely to pose critical questions about other matters we take for granted. This means that they frequently work in the avantgarde and that they have (and have had) a substantial impact on art history. Additionally, representation is crucial: it reflects a more complete human experience. The masterclass will feature artists such as Marlow Moss, Robert Mapplethorpe, Claude Cahun, Edward Burra, Hannah Höch, Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana.
